Graduation, and Academic Appeals Committee
Before the end of each fall semester, a university committee shall be established as follows:
Organization
The University Admissions and Credits Committee shall be organized in the following manner:
- The chair of each college admissions and credits committee.
- Three students. Two of the students must have completed 60 undergraduate hours at ASU and are appointed by the Student Government Association. The student's appointments must be approved by the vice chancellor for student affairs.
- The Registrar and Director of Undergraduate Admissions (or designees) shall serve as ex-officio members of the committee.
- Representatives from Advisement Services and Student Life.
- At the first meeting of the committee following its organization, members shall elect a chair, who will be responsible for scheduling and conducting meetings, and a secretary, who will be responsible for keeping minutes and communicating committee recommendations to the appropriate parties.
Jurisdiction
The UAGAAC shall:
- Serve as an appeals body for ASU students seeking to appeal recommendations of a college, independent department or the decisions of a college dean or independent department chair.
- Hear any petition from ASU students regarding waiver or variance to university requirements, rules, or regulations.
- Be free to make recommendations without the student being present.
- Maintain a continuing study of academic rules, regulations, and policies printed in the undergraduate and graduate bulletins.
- When appropriate make recommendations regarding such rules, regulations, and policies to the Vice Chancellor of Research and Academic Affairs and/or the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Operation
The UAGAAC Committee shall:
- Meet at regular scheduled times, with special attention given to meetings just prior to and during registration periods, or according to need.
- Records of committee actions and transmit recommendations to the student and the Vice Chancellor for Research and Academic Affairs and/or the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Academic policy decisions should be directed to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Academic Affairs or designee. Undergraduate admissions decisions should be directed to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs or designee. Either vice chancellor or designee will have ten working days, following receipt of the committee's recommendation to accept or deny the recommendations. If the committee's recommendations are not denied in the time period, they are considered approved. Non-acceptance of the recommendation will be communicated to the committee, the students, the Registrar / Director of Admissions for inclusion in the student´s permanent record.
