What is the UAGAAC committee?
Frequently called "Admissions and Credits", the UAGAAC committee serves as an appeals body for ASU students seeking to appeal recommendations of a college, independent department or the decisions of a college dean or independent department chair. The committee hears any petition from ASU students regarding waivers or variance to university requirements, rules, or regulations.
Who serves on the UAGAAC committee?
The committee members are representatives from all the colleges on campus and from the offices of Undergraduate Admissions, Advisement Services, Student Life, and Registrar. The representatives from the Offices of Admissions and Registrar serve on the committee ex-officio. For a list of the representatives, please refer to the committee membership page.
When does the UAGAAC committee meet?
The committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month in the ASU Student Union in the 1909 Room. The committee may also meet at the start of every semester or according to need.
What should I do in order to petition?
Please go to the checklist section for more information. Please remember that the process may take a few days or longer depending on when your college committee meets or when the UAGAAC meets or if petitioners have to submit proper documentation.
What documentation should I provide?
Depending on your situation, you should submit your complete academic transcripts, letters from doctors, teachers, etc. Documentation should be appropriate to the petition.
What about confidentiality?
The information provided to the committee is considered confidential. Committee members are required to abide by federal guidelines / university policy with regards to student information.
When does the committee make its decision?
Depending on the petition, the committee will make its decision during its meeting. Petitions are reviewed according to their topic and the committee may take a few minutes or 30 minutes on each petition.
Should I attend the committee meeting?
Yes. When reviewing each petition, committee members frequently have questions for each petitioner. The committee does reserve the right not to meet with petitioners.
When will I know the committee's decision?
If you attend the meeting, a member of the committee will relay the committee's decision to you personally. You will also receive a copy of your petition with the decision. If you are not in attendance at the meeting, the decision will be mailed to you.
Can the committee make conditional decisions?
Yes, the committee can make decisions that will require the petitioner show more documentation or proof of completion of a course, etc.
